Angry Birds The Movie, one of the most eagerly awaited animated feature films of the year

Angry Birds mania takes hold as launch date of new movie approaches Stars of Angry Birds — The Movie become ambassadors, emojis and style leaders!

Angry Birds Mania is building as Angry Birds — The Movie, one of the most eagerly awaited animated feature films of the year, begins launching in territories around the world. And in Italy, where Maurizio Distefano Licensing has been appointed as licensing agent, fans and a growing number of licensees are counting down to the 16 June release date.

Awareness is certainly high as the world’s favourite birds and pigs continue to hit the headlines — most recently as UN ambassadors, Microsoft emoji and style leaders!

At a recent launch event at UN headquarters in New York The United Nations announced the appointment of Red of the Angry Birds as an Honorary Green Ambassador. He will be the spokesman for the #AngryBirdsHappyPlanet environmental awareness campaign. The campaign, organized in partnership with Sony, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations itself, invites everyone to make Angry Birds happy by taking simple steps to prevent energy waste. The initiatives will then be shared on social media with the dedicated hashtag.

Meanwhile, to celebrate the launch of Angry Birds — The Movie, Microsoft has developed a new series of emoji for Windows Skype messaging, Mac, Android, iOS and the web. The first emoji are now available. They are: an angry  (of course) Red, a (not too smart) little pig, Bomb about to explode, Stella in defiant mode, Matilda, who takes care of children, a clumsy Hatchling and three little ones playing with a butterfly.

But that’s not all. Timed to coincide with the launch of the third official trailer of the movie (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hksyh33N5dg) is a fun initiative that allows anyone to become an Angry Bird. Just join the vast numbers of fans going to https://www.angrify.me and find out how!

Angry Birds is the globally successful video game and brand, created and owned by Finnish computer game developer Rovio Entertainment. The game, in which multi-coloured birds try to retrieve their eggs from a group of hungry pigs, is today the number one downloaded app of all time and an international phenomenon. The success of the app has inspired many new Angry Birds games, as well as toys, books, TV shows, food product, theme parks and now Angry Birds — The Movie.
Featuring the voices of Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage and popular comedy writer and performer Bill Hader, the film has inspired a vastly expanded range of licensed partnerships across a large number of categories. Independent licensing group Maurizio Distefano Licensing, which has been appointed as licensing agent in Italy for Angry Birds, has built a major licensing programme for the property in the Italian market, where it is enjoying continuing success as brand awareness grows with the imminent arrival of the film.

Maurizio Distefano says: “The Angry Birds brand has been strong in this market for some years but with the arrival of the new movie it is set to reach even greater heights — and it’s clear from the interest expressed by film fans, emoji lovers and even the UN that it’s going to have a really wide audience!”
