The history of Kikkoman has ancient origins: in the 17th century, the ancestors of the Mogi family began producing in the Japanese city of Noda.
Today the word Kikkoman has become synonymous of soy sauce, a food with a flavor appreciated all over the world.
The name Kikkoman has a special meaning: “Kikko” means “turtle shell” and “man” stands for “10,000”. According to a Japanese legend, turtles live 10,000 years and are a symbol of luck, success and long life. The distinctive hexagon is made up of a symbolic turtle shell and the Japanese Kanji symbol for the number 10,000, which combines “tradition” and “innovation”.
