Licensing Italia was established in early 2007 with the aim of immediately becoming a reference point for all Italian companies interested in exploring the opportunities offered by the licensing industry and understanding the fundamental rules for implementing successful licensing programs in Italy and abroad.
In the early 2000s, the licensing sector in Italy, and more generally in Europe, was still very underdeveloped, making it quite difficult for Italian companies to access relevant information about licensors and available licenses.

“When I was entrusted with the responsibilities of the Licensing Dept. at the Ferrero Group in 1999, I had no idea how challenging it would be to carry out my work,” recalls Roberta Nebbia, former Ferrero executive and founder of Licensing Italia. “The information and research available were scarce and exclusively focused on English-speaking markets. The only truly relevant industry trade show was held in June at the Jacob Javits Center in New York. Brand Licensing at Earls Court in London would only be inaugurated in 2003 and in a significantly smaller form compared to today. Identifying and negotiating the right license was a real challenge.”
Licensing Italia began its journey by launching the licensingitalia.it portal in February 2007, the first portal in Europe entirely dedicated to licensing. It quickly became a reference point for licensors, licensing agencies, and, most importantly, for companies looking for accurate information about the licensing sector.
Since its inception, the numbers for licensingitalia.it have steadily grown, mirroring the positive evolution of the licensing sector, which, over the past two decades, has increased from global Retail Sales of USD 94.6 billion in 2003 to USD 350 billion in 2023 (source: Licensing International – Global Licensing Industry Survey 2024).
In 2018, Licensing Italia became an officially registered online publication (Tribunal of Milan, No. 164, 30/05/2018), the only Italian publication dedicated exclusively to the licensing sector, providing daily insights on major industry news in Italy and abroad. At today, Licensing Italia remains the only publication officially registered in Italy.
After 18 years in the market, Licensing Italia is now internationally recognized as a key player in promoting a deep understanding of licensing at all levels and supporting companies aiming to succeed in this sector.
